Gloria Espinosa: A Brave Battle with Cancer and a Heartfelt Farewell

by time news

12 years ago, Gloria Espinosa received the worst news of her life: she was diagnosed with an uncommon cancer. Today, the woman has died at the age of 49.

Her story went viral a few weeks ago because Gloria had celebrated her 50th birthday in advance (it was actually next month) because she knew her life was coming to an end.

Espinosa stated that throughout her 12 years with the illness, she had “better experiences and memories.”

“Today I am blessed because I have the opportunity to leave things organized, to share these days with the people I love. May my wishes be fulfilled the day I leave,” she asserted.

One of her last wishes was to gather her friends and family for an early 50th birthday party: “Before, birthday gifts were for buying a dress, a purse. Today that money is for buying my niche, cremation, and leaving everything organized and once again choosing what I want.”

Accompanied by numerous people, she celebrated on June 27. She took photos with family and friends so they would remember her forever.

In an emotional speech, she declared: “I am more prepared to leave than to stay.” Surrounded by friends and family, she toasted to a life that, although filled with challenges, was also full of love, faith, and gratitude. Her firm belief in God led her to see her departure as an act of divine love. “I leave quietly,” she said in her final words, accepting the inevitable with a serenity that few understand.

In her last moments, Gloria was sedated, at peace, surrounded by her family, who witnessed her relentless struggle and unbreakable strength. Her son Juan Antonio, 25, spoke of his mother’s spirit, highlighting that, despite the adversities, she never stopped smiling.

The Colombian woman was diagnosed in 2012 with a myxoid liposarcoma. According to the United States National Cancer Institute (NCI), this cancer is rare and forms in the cells that store fat.

Although Espinosa was several years without complications, her condition began to deteriorate after 2020. She underwent chemotherapy, but the cancer did not disappear from her body.

“I have about 33 metastases. The chemo is no longer working for me, and they told me there is nothing that can be done. The size of the tumors is very large, and surgery is no longer possible,” she had said in a recent interview.

The news of the woman’s passing generated significant interest in Argentina, especially to learn about her story and her inspiring message. “Gloria Espinosa died” was the most searched term on Google.

From various parts of the country, people wanted to learn about the tough struggle of a woman who never gave up.
