THE OPINION

Daughter of art, actress, singer-songwriter, Margherita Vicariowho grew up between cinema and music, makes her directorial debut in a delicate and at the same time daring feature film. Gloria! it is a costume film, but the essential requirement to enjoy this work, presented in competition at the end Berlin Film Festival and then to Bifest in the Baris letting yourself go to a musical anachronism that cannot fail to generate enthralling enthusiasm.

The protagonists of this story, well played by young actresses, including Veronica Lucchesiknown as the singer of the duo La Representative di Lista, Carlotta Gamba (Amusia2023, Dante2022) e Galatea Bellugi (Amanda2022), are young people with a painful past, forced to live in a female institution, who find their personal redemption by inventing a music free from the patterns imposed by the era.

At the center of their rebellion is a piano, a very innovative instrument for those years, in which the more rigid sounds of the harpsichord were better accepted, which becomes the true driving force of the story. With Gloria! Vicario, together with the precious collaboration of Anita Rivaroli to writing, realizes not only his desire to combine two of his passions, cinema and music, but also a film that frees itself from the simple female historical account and transforms itself into a fresh and pulsating story, played on the rhythm of the protagonists’ emotions returned in the form of music.
