The Ministry of Environmental Protection’s clean beach index for May 2022, ranks Ashdod at the top of the clean beaches in Israel in a survey conducted on a monthly basis
In Ashdod, they note that the maintenance of the coastal strip, which extends over more than 10 kilometers, is the result of a green policy led by Mayor Yehiel Lasri for over a decade, and has led, among other things, to winning seven blue flags for the ninth year in a row.
They added that the index compliments Ashdod even in light of the beach-free beach project that is being operated at Tu Beach and is already a success among those who spend time at the beach.
According to the data, the coastal authorities that received a very clean score are Ashdod, Bat Yam, Gan Raveh, Hof Hasharon, Haifa, Tirat Carmel, Mate Asher, Netanya, Acre, Tel Aviv-Yafo. An average average score is given to Eilat, Jisr a-Zarqa and Emek Hefer. A dirty average score was awarded to Ashkelon and Ashkelon beaches.
A clean beach index is a uniform and objective assessment of the degree of cleanliness of open and undeclared beaches for bathing.
The inspectors of the National Marine Environmental Protection Unit carry out, without any prior notice, a measurement of the level of cleanliness, and report this to the authorities in favor of monitoring and corrective actions to improve the condition of the beaches. This also raises the awareness of the general public about the need to preserve the marine environment and also strengthens public transparency.
