The winner hasn’t even been chosen yet, but there’s been plenty of criticism!
On Thursday invites Heidi Klum (50) back to the finale of “Germany’s Next Top Model” ( “GNTM”). But this year everything will be different.
The end of season 18 takes place in a small TV studio in Cologne, with no fans and no press. During the live broadcast (ProSieben 8:15 p.m.), only friends and family members will support the finalists. Spectators could not buy tickets, but had to watch everything at home on the TV screen. There is also no room for the press in the small studio.
The GNTM semifinals last week lost many viewers
These are innovations that even Heidi’s father Günter Klum (77) cannot understand. The man who pulled the strings behind the scenes at GNTM for many years now sharply criticizes the format and austerity measures of the broadcaster ProSieben.
The reasons for his statements are quota analyzes which show that that the “GNTM” semifinals last week at 10 p.m. lost many viewers who didn’t even finish watching the show.
“Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the finals used to be held in Cologne or other cities in a hall with 15,000 people. Now fans can no longer participate, it has become more impersonal,” says Günter Klum in a YouTube video that he uploaded to his website.
He remembers the times when he helped organize the final shows. “When 15,000 people, children and young people, scream in a hall when it starts, it’s different than when there are only families in a studio raising their banners. That’s not what ‘Germany’s next top model’ is all about,” he says.
What defines the format? “A great show, and the name and the number of viewers deserve it. Unfortunately, that’s no longer the case at the moment.”
The reason for these changes is clear to him: austerity measures! The broadcaster would therefore also spend less money on this format and the final show. You could see that in the guests, among other things.
Günter Klum: “Then they come Scorpions, a well-known band for me, but the young people who want to see ‘Germany’s Next Top Model’ say: ‘Scorpions, who is that?’ They can’t do anything with the name, they want people who are known in the world. And this time there is only one, the Lord Gaultier. “
But according to Heidi’s father, the austerity measures are not only of a financial nature, but would also affect the ideas: “‘Germany’s Next Top Model’ is a show for young beautiful women. You would have to call them something else if you now also allow women who no longer correspond to this ideal of beauty to take part. If you let the mothers take part, then you also have to say “Germany’s next top model and her mothers’.”
Günther Klum’s suggestion: “It would be much easier if you said we let beautiful young men participate and then let them play against each other during the show. People would be much more interested in that.”
The GNTM fans are disappointed
The disappointment of the fans, not being able to attend the final, was already there To feel Heidi Klum himself. During a question and answer session on Instagram on Monday, she said: “I hope it will work again next year.”
It explains the very small selected circle of viewers in the final with the corona pandemic: “I don’t think many people understand that we have to book the halls a year in advance, and because Corona was at the start in recent years and we weren’t sure, we’ll have that again this year made in a studio.”
Her promise: “Next year we’ll do it big again!”
Friends, family and fans can look forward to it!
