Thanks to a penalty goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time, WAC just averted a 1-1 defeat against Austria Lustenau. Here are the votes for the game:

Manfred Schmid (WAC coach): “I’m at a loss for words, an incredible game. We played a great game in the first half with huge chances to score and we really need to lead at the break. And then we’re close to a self-fall where we make an incredible mistake in defense. Of course it does something to the team. But then we found each other again and created one or two goalscoring chances. Then came the penalty (for Lustenau, note), where we didn’t do well either. In the end we still have to be happy with the point, although we were clearly the better team.” Markus Mader (Lustenau coach): “The first minutes of the second half were okay, we scored the goal out of nowhere. But over the entire season we were inferior and the WAC were clearly the better team. In the first half we were just reacting, just chasing and suffering a lot because we didn’t dare to do anything. That was so disappointing. But at some point I have to say that the individual quality doesn’t fit. I hope that quality will come soon, otherwise it will be a very, very difficult year.” Bernhard Zimmermann (WAC goalscorer): “If you look at the performance and the chances from the first half, there should normally be no doubt who did it game wins. That the game then slips out of our hands is unbelievable. In the end we have to be happy that we took the point.” Namory Cisse (Lustenau goal scorer): “Fortunately we kept the 0-0 lead in the first half. We didn’t trust ourselves too much. A lot of emotions shot through my head when I scored the goal because it was also my starting XI debut. In the end, it’s bitter that we gave them a penalty. But that’s football, we have to put that aside and focus on the next game.”
