Nottingham Forest Secure Signing of Goalkeeper Matt Turner from Arsenal
Nottingham Forest has officially announced the signing of goalkeeper Matt Turner from Premier League giants Arsenal. The 29-year-old United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) international has put pen to paper on a four-year contract with Forest.
Turner’s potential debut for his new club could take place as early as Saturday, as Forest kicks off their Premier League season against his former team, Arsenal, at the Emirates Stadium. The experienced shot-stopper made 32 appearances for his country and joined Arsenal last summer after an impressive stint in Major League Soccer (MLS) with the New England Revolution, where he made 111 appearances.
Although he only featured seven times last season as a backup to Aaron Ramsdale, Turner is eager to showcase his skills in the Premier League with Forest. The goalkeeper’s arrival adds depth and international experience to Forest’s squad.
Forest has been actively strengthening their goalkeeping options during the summer transfer window. The club remains in regular contact with Manchester United regarding a potential return for Dean Henderson to the City Ground. Henderson spent the previous season on loan at Forest and impressed before a thigh injury forced him to miss a significant portion of the campaign. The departure of Henderson and Keylor Navas at the end of their loan spells created a void that Forest aims to fill adequately.
The signing of Turner ensures that Forest will have quality options between the posts as they head into the new season. Turner expressed his excitement about the move, stating, “When I heard there was interest to bring me here, it just felt right for my family… The manager and the backroom staff, everything about the club has a little sparkle to it.”
Forest is also looking to finalize a deal for Henderson once he returns to match fitness. The 26-year-old is likely to return on loan, potentially with an obligation or an option to buy. Forest currently has Wayne Hennessey and US international Ethan Horvath in their squad. Horvath may be allowed to move on, while Hennessey will continue providing competition and cover.
Young goalkeeper George Shevley, who impressed during pre-season, will be loaned out to gain more experience.
