FC Luzern has to admit defeat in Winterthur after three wins in a row. Zurich secured a 2-1 win in the second half thanks to Tobias Schättin.
A weak second half on the Schützenwiese stopped Lucerne’s successful run. With the 1-0 lead behind them, the Central Swiss completely lost the thread, conceded the equalizer with Ltaief’s eighth goal of the season (64th) and the second goal after a sleepy long ball from Winterthur.
The 2-1 score in the 83rd minute paints a representative picture of Lucerne in the second 45 minutes. First, Severin Ottiger came too late in a duel with Tobias Schättin and received a second yellow card. Seconds later, Schättin took better care of a long ball from his own defense than his opponent Nicky Beloko and scored with his head.
The Winterthur team are now only two points behind sixth-placed Lucerne, who can perhaps take some consolation from the fact that they made a good catch during the winter break. The Austrian Adrian Grbic, who came from Lorient with almost no match practice, not only scored from a penalty to make it 1-0 (25th), but was also repeatedly dangerous to score.
