The Colombian U-20 women’s team achieved an important victory in the debut of the South American category that is taking place in Guayaquil, Ecuador and against Chile the team led by Carlos Paniagua achieved three points in group B.
The youth team is preparing to host the Women’s World Cup and with a view to that competition that will be held in the coffee-growing country, the coaching staff is beginning to look in this South American competition at the cards that can help them be a protagonist in that competition.
Although Chile tried to close the gap, Colombia was superior and in 20 minutes they scored two goals, with Gabriela Rodríguez being the great figure by scoring a double (17′ and 19′).
Rodríguez’s first goal was outstanding, as he took advantage of his speed, took out several players and ended up scoring against Chilean goalkeeper Bernardita Hernández, while the second came through a header after a well-executed free kick by Daniela Garavito.
However, at the beginning of the second half, the prominence of Gabriela Rodríguez with her double ended up being overshadowed after receiving a red card at Minute 56, after a dangerous play after raising her leg and hitting the player Monserrat Hernández in the face.
From there, the match had to be designed intelligently and hold on to the large victory, so the goal options decreased in that final stretch, although Chile tried in various ways to reach the discount, but they could not find the way to that goal.
This victory against Chile leaves Colombia in third position in the South American Women’s U-20 by adding three points in group B and now, they prepare to face Venezuela on Tuesday, April 16.
