Pope Francis participated this Sunday, April 30 in the afternoon, 4:00 pm (local time) in a meeting with the world of universities and culture at the headquarters of the Péter Pázmány Catholic University, in Budapest, Hungary.

After the greeting of welcome by Msgr. Prof. Géza Kuminetz, Rector Magnificent of the “Péter Pázmány” Catholic University and a musical interlude, Pope Francis listened to the testimonies of a professor and a student from the Faculty of Informatics and Bionic Sciences.

In this context, Dorottya Kocsis, a young Hungarian researcher, affirmed that the University is a space to live and be part of “the creative force in motion” of God who “writes his divine plan for the world. He creates through us.”

“Amazed by Creation”

The young woman stated that the “astonishment for Creation” motivates her vocation. She is a PhD student at the Faculty, a former undergraduate and master’s student.

God “creates through us. So live in the present, because in each moment you are part of the creative force in a movement by which He writes his divine plan for the world.”

Kocsis argued that “it is also the task of biology” to participate in God’s work. “As we discover more and more small details, we are immersed in the complexity” divine.

The doctoral student told the Pope that she meets God “while working with pipettes in the laboratory.” “As well as in family contacts. In candid conversations with friends. In perseverance and humility”.

About 260 people participated in this meeting with Pope Francis.

Testimonio del professor Balázs Major

“Holy Father! As followers of Christ, part of our mission is to promote dialogue and creative coexistence between religions and civilizations. As a university of the Catholic Church, we must do it with our own means: research and education”.

This was the testimony of Balázs Major, associate professor at the Institute of Archaeology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Péter Pázmány Catholic University.

“Our university carries out important international cooperation, especially with the countries of the Middle East.”

“Consequently – he stated – our faculty is focusing on Syria, a country affected by war and other major catastrophes”.

“Syria is one of the cradles of Christianity. Our neighbors, including our Christian brothers and sisters in the East, who now live in conditions of great suffering, need all the help they can get. We try to guarantee it with our work on the ground in Syria and the education of Syrians in Hungary,” added Professor Major.

The College of Computer Science and Bionics

The Faculty of Computer Science and Bionics at the Péter Pázmány Catholic University is unique in Hungary and even in Europe in that it combines the study of electrical and computer engineering with molecular and neural biology and medicine. This year, the Faculty celebrates its 25th anniversary.

At the end, the Pope greeted some of those present. He then left the Péter Pázmány Catholic University and drove to Budapest’s Ferenc Liszt International Airport for the farewell ceremony in Hungary.
