He said that the data of production cost of IPPs should be kept before the public, IPPs should be told about the amount paid for fuel and also the data of receipts made by IPPs from consumers. should be placed before the public.
Gohar Ejaz said that people want to know at what rate electricity is being provided to them. Actual cost of electricity should be less than Rs 30 per unit, contracts with IPPs should be converted to take and pay.
Remember that take and pay is an agreement that binds the buyer to take any product and if the product is not taken then they have to pay a certain amount.
Former minister Gohar Ejaz further said that the government should buy cheap electricity from wherever it is available, 52 percent of IPPs are owned by the government, government IPPs are being run at less than 50 percent production capacity, government IPPs 48% of IPPs are owned by 40 families, charging 100% capacity charges to consumers.
Gohar Ejaz said that 48% IPPs are running at 50% production capacity, these IPPs have been paid 21.12 trillion rupees, until recently we were not aware of these reports.
He said that corruption and mismanagement are being done in the name of investors’ trust, before seeing the IPPs contracts, we did not know how we were being robbed.
