Goheung-gun held a completion ceremony for the ‘Living in Two Regions Goheung Stay’. On the 19th, Goheung-gun (Governor Gong Yeong-min) held the completion ceremony for the ‘Living in Two Regions Weekend Love Goheung Love’ Goheung Stay with approximately 100 people in attendance, including Gong Yeong-min, the county mayor, Ryu Je-dong, provincial assembly member Song Hyeong-gon, heads of organizations and social groups, and participating households of the ‘Living in Two Regions’ program.
The completion ceremony on this day was held in the following order: commemorative speeches, congratulatory remarks, commemorative photos, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a tour of the facility.
‘GOHyang ALL-LAE (GOHyang ALL-LAE) Living in Two Regions’ is a public offering project of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. It provides residential space to urban residents who are interested in Goheung and wish to stay in the region regularly for leisure, relaxation, and experience purposes, and supports various experiences and resident exchange programs to attract residents and revitalize the local economy.
The military purchased the former KEPCO building, which had been left abandoned as an abandoned building, damaging the city’s appearance and causing various complaints due to its foul odor and as a habitat for pests. The military invested a total of KRW 1.05 billion, including KRW 500 million from the national government and KRW 150 million from the provincial government, to remodel the interior and improve the exterior environment, transforming it into a cozy residential space with 12 households.
In particular, the rear wall of the building, which was difficult to pass vehicles due to the narrow road width and frequently had a risk of accidents due to constant traffic congestion, was torn down to provide parking space for residents, which has been well-received by the local community.
In addition, various experiential programs will be operated for the 12 households that participated in the first batch, which were recruited by June, so that they can experience the charm of Goheung while staying in Goheung and interacting with local residents, such as their own vegetable garden experience, Goheung people exploration, and Goheung wandering troupe.
Governor Gong Yeong-min said, “Our county opened Goheung Stay to provide a comfortable home for city residents to take their first steps in Goheung,” and added, “We will work to operate it effectively so that living in the two regions can become a nationwide example.”
One participant of the two-region living program said, “I decided to participate in the program because I thought Goheung-gun’s beautiful and clean natural environment and abundant food would be a great second home for healing,” and “I plan to return to Goheung after going through various exchanges and adaptation processes in the future.”
Meanwhile, Goheung-gun plans to review the expansion of the two-region living experience project by focusing on fishing villages, rural areas, and island experience types based on this public offering project, and to further activate the project by providing specialized education in conjunction with the Goheung-gun Returning to Farming and Fishing Villages Happiness School with the ultimate goal of helping participants settle down in the region.
