The ‘Home Medical Care Aid Project’ in Goheung-gun, where treatment and care are provided at home, is in full swing. Goheung-gun (Governor Gong Yeong-min) announced on the 29th that preparations for better service support are in full swing as the ‘Home Medical Care Aid’ project, which has been piloted since last year, will be expanded nationwide starting in July.
The home medical aid project has been in pilot operation since July of last year as an integrated service support project that provides post-discharge medical care, care, meals, and hospital transfers to help medical aid recipients who have been hospitalized for more than a month despite a low need for long-term hospitalization to return to and settle in the community.
If selected as a beneficiary, a customized care plan will be established through consultation with the medical aid manager and the hospital’s medical staff, and essential benefits such as medical care, care, meals, and hospital transportation worth up to 710,000 won per month for up to two years, as well as optional benefits including heating and cooling supplies, improved living environment, and welfare equipment.
Last year, in order to promote the pilot project, business agreements were signed with two medical aid organizations ▲Nokdong Hyundai Hospital ▲Goheung-gun Public Senior Care Hospital, one care organization ▲Goheung-gun Social Welfare Council, and one meal provider ▲Goheung Senior Club.
This year, we have completed preparations to provide better service by signing business agreements with five additional organizations: Donggwang Senior Welfare Center, New Goheung Mart, Dohwa Mart, Q Food Mart, and Our Neighborhood Senior Welfare Center.
The number of subjects also increased from 2 last year to 3 this year through a comprehensive survey, and a total of 5 people are currently receiving the service. The survey for the purpose of discovery is ongoing.
Services provided so far include accompanying visits to medical care facilities, assistance with activities for the disabled, home bathing, delivery of side dishes and ingredients, support for home appliances, and daily care, as well as installation of entrance ramps and bed safety bars, to help people live comfortably at home.
In addition, it contributed to financial stabilization by reducing the medical aid budget, such as the medical expenses of subjects under management for more than 6 months, which decreased by 94% (approximately 140 million won) compared to the previous year.
The subjects expressed their gratitude, saying, “We were afraid of leaving the confined life of the hospital and returning home, but thanks to the continued interest and support of Goheung County, we were able to enjoy a normal daily life and felt like we had a companion, not just someone alone.”
Governor Gong Yeong-min said, “I would like to express my gratitude to the cooperative organizations that are actively cooperating to promote the home medical care benefit project. In line with the nationwide expansion in July, we will do our best to actively discover beneficiaries through stable project operation and help them successfully settle into the local community.”
Meanwhile, Goheung-gun is doing its best to support customized services to reduce medical expenses and improve the quality of life of the residents by implementing regional specialization projects (under-user management), conducting a survey on the status of long-term hospitalization patients, and conducting in-depth case management by type to establish proper health management for a total of 3,321 medical aid recipients.
