Goheung-gun has made the excellence of Goheung Buncheong ware art known to the world. Goheung-gun (Governor Gong Yeong-min) Buncheong Culture Museum announced that it attended the 51st International Academy of Cermics (IAC) General Assembly held in Caldas da Reinha, Portugal from September 16 to 20.
The International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) was founded in 1952 by Henry J. Reynard in Geneva, Switzerland, as an advisory body to UNESCO’s Cultural Sector to facilitate exchanges among ceramic artists around the world. It is an internationally authoritative organization in the field of ceramics.
This general meeting brought together approximately 1,000 ceramic artists and institutions from 81 countries to discuss the main projects of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC), hold academic presentations on various topics, conduct exchange activities between member countries, and introduce new member institutions and hold a membership card award ceremony.
Last September, Goheung Buncheong Cultural Museum became the first public museum to be registered as a member institution of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC). As a new member, it attended the institution introduction and membership card presentation ceremony and received enthusiastic applause and cheers from ceramic experts from around the world.
Director Jeong Hye-gyeong, who attended as a representative of the museum, said, “As the Goheung Buncheong Culture Museum has become an official member of the International Ceramic Academy (IAC), we have established a foundation for attracting international ceramic events,” and “We will continue to promote the excellence of Goheung Buncheong ware to the world and strive to raise its status by attracting and participating in international events.” She also said, “I hope you will show a lot of interest in the International Ceramic Workshop that will be held from September 25 to October 6.”
