Goheung-gun won the ‘Grand Prize’ as the best travel destination in Korea by SRT and was selected as one of the ‘Top 10’ by KORAIL Tourism Development. Goheung-gun (Governor Gong Young-min) is once again attracting attention. Following winning the ‘Grand Prize’ as the best travel destination in Korea at the ‘2024 SRT Awards’, it was selected as a ‘Top 10’ travel destination by KORAIL Tourism Development this year.
This award is a result of Goheung’s unique charm. This is thanks to the unique and warm intertwining of Goheung’s two axes of ‘space’ and ‘nature’, centered around the Naro Space Center, to provide tourists with an unforgettable experience.
The process of introducing a somewhat unfamiliar topic called ‘space science’ into a tourist attraction must not have been easy. However, Goheung did not stop at just a simple concept, but completed unrivaled storytelling by incorporating it into the local nature and culture. The novel project of space science travel centered around the Naro Space Center transformed Goheung as a travel destination into a place of experience rather than simply a place to stay.
According to data from KORAIL Tourism Development, Goheung-gun ranked 7th in travel destinations among 80 travel products operated by KORAIL Tourism Development. This ranking was selected based on the sales volume of the ‘Space Science Train’ product introduced in cooperation between KORAIL Tourism Development and Goheung-gun.
A military official said, “Goheung-gun is providing a special experience to visitors with a unique theme of space science,” and added, “We plan to provide various types of attractive travel products to more tourists in the future.”
Meanwhile, Goheung-gun (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that it will apply and receive applications for public welfare allowances for farmers and fishermen in 2025 at the town/myeon office with jurisdiction over the address by February 7.
The public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen is a project promoted to directly solve rural problems such as population decline and aging, and to maintain and promote the public interest and pluralistic functions of farming, fishing and fishing villages.
Those eligible to apply are those who have registered an agricultural, fishing, or forestry business before January 1, 2024, and have continued to have an address in Jeollanam-do and have been engaged in farming, fishing, or forestry. Applicants can visit the town/myeon office with jurisdiction over their address and submit the application in person.
However, public interest allowance is paid to those who have a comprehensive income other than agriculture and fisheries of 37 million won or more in the year before application, public officials or executives and employees of public institutions, and those who received dispositions for illegally receiving subsidies such as direct payments or violating the Mountainous Areas Management Act, the Animal Infectious Disease Prevention Act, or the Fisheries Act in the year before application. Those who live in the same household as the recipient but live in separate households are excluded from payment.
The full allowance of 600,000 won will be paid in the form of a Goheung Love Gift Certificate once a year between March and May.
A county official said, “Amid difficult situations such as falling prices of agricultural and fishery products, we expect that the public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen will contribute to stabilizing the income of farmers and fishermen and revitalize the stagnant local economy.” He added, “We will continue to provide active administrative support for the county residents.” He said.
