DISPATCH — “I earned 35,000 to 40,000 euros, […] now we are at 5,000” per month, deplores Julia Paredes at the microphone of Jeremstar, in the program “Baby Story” of Sunday July 2. This drama, she should have it to the Duke of Boulogne …

L’history begins in 2021, when the famous rapper Booba attacks what he calls “influencers”, lovers of “drop-shipping” and scams of all kinds. He accuses them of defrauding young people, who are their biggest audience.

Little by little, he goes back to the “high priestess” of influencers, the agent of “Shauna Events” Magali Berdah. In front of the courts and on social networks, these two are still tearing themselves apart today. Booba filed a complaint for “questionable business practices” and “organized gang scams”, and Magali Berdah for cyber-harassment.

The “Delaporte-Vojetta” law

In the meantime, MPs Arthur Delaporte (PS-NUPES) and Stéphane Vojetta (Renaissance) have looked into the subject of influencers and have proposed a law to control their practices. Filed on January 31, 2023, the latter aroused an outcry among content creators. So much so that at the initiative of the Union of Influencers and Content Creators (UMICC), a forum opposing this bill was signed by some 150 influencers of all kinds, and published in the JDD. Quite quickly, some of them (Squeezie and Terracid, for example) claimed to have signed too quickly and dissociated themselves from the movement: “We all signed something overall with two or three WhatsApp exchanges, which is a shame for us, because we’re a bit like idiots”, admits Seb la Frite.

Finally, the law is promulgated on June 9, 2023, and published in the Official Journal the next day. By establishing a tripartite responsibility between the advertiser, the influencer and his agent, the law prohibits in particular advertisements for surgery and aesthetic medicine or financial products and services. In addition, influencers must clearly indicate the words “advertising” or “commercial collaboration” on their promotional content. Ditto for the “retouched images”.

From then on, it’s the descent into hell for the “influvoleurs”…

He “killed the business”

Last Sunday, Julia Paredes blamed the blow: “Frankly, he killed our business.” The former candidate of the “Angels” says that she could earn up to €40,000 per month before the controversy flared up. And that, without “promoting creams for the vagina”, she assures.

Today, his monthly €5,000 makes it difficult for him to stay in Dubai with the other influencers. Moreover, many leave for the same reasons: “As and when, there are some who leave. Because life here, you have to assume it”, she laments.

It is certain, a house that costs “85,000 euros a year”, it must be assumed. And if there was only the house! “I’m telling you the truth, it’s very expensive, the restaurants, the activities…” admits Julia Paredes. A difficult way of life to live up to when you have the pissed off Duke of Boulogne on your back…
