Gokseong-gun was selected as a ‘Education Development Special Zone Pilot Region’. Gokseong-gun was selected as the 2nd pilot region for the Education Development Special Zone promoted by the Ministry of Education and the Presidential Committee on Local Government, and will receive 38.8 billion won of national support out of a total of 46.6 billion won in education budget for the next 5 years.
The Education Development Special Zone is a key policy of the ‘bold education reform to nurture talent’ among the five strategies for implementing the local era. It aims to establish a system that comprehensively supports the nurturing of excellent talent and regional settlement through innovation in local public education.
For this selection, the military has been making all-out efforts to prepare a plan by signing business agreements with South Jeolla Province, the Provincial Office of Education, Gokseong Office of Education, Gokseong County Council, Jeonnam Science University, schools in the jurisdiction, and Gokseong County Future Education Foundation, operating a working-level consultative body, and preparing a plan.
The Gokseong-type education development special zone model called ‘K-food specialized’ consists of four promotion strategies and 11 detailed implementation plans for balanced development of public education. Major plans include: △Operation of a base-type reserved care center △Activation of regional linked care and neulbom schools △Ecological and AI joint linked education △Strengthening of public-private-academic education platform functions △Specialized education for young chefs △Establishment of autonomous public high schools △K-food & smart farm human resource development, etc.
In particular, we plan to focus on fostering K-food experts based on specialized education programs centered around the Future Education Foundation, Culinary Science High School, Chonnam Science University, and the Nutrition Education Experience Center under the Jeollanam-do Office of Education (scheduled to be established). In addition, we plan to foster specialized talents in the smart farm sector, which is the county’s core business.
In addition, we plan to develop a regional model in which education, jobs, and settlement are in a virtuous cycle by linking the local extinction response fund and the local revitalization town project, and maximize the synergy effect of special zone operation.
Lee Gwi-dong, acting governor of Gokseong County, said, “Through this special zone designation, we aim to establish practical measures for the development of regional education and response to population decline,” adding, “We will actively support the creation of a solid education ecosystem that enhances Gokseong County’s educational competitiveness from child care to elementary, middle, and high schools, and connects it with the region’s integrated development strategy.”
Next, Noh Myeong-sook, the superintendent of the Gokseong Education Support Office, emphasized, “This selection of the education development special zone is an important opportunity to present the future direction of Gokseong education through cooperation with local governments,” and “We will continue to build a model of mutual prosperity between local autonomy and educational autonomy.”
Meanwhile, Gokseong-gun, which was selected as a pilot area for the Education Development Special Zone, will be officially designated as a special zone after evaluation by the Education Development Special Zone Committee after three years of operation.
