Gokseong County Governor Lee Sang-cheol won the Excellence Award at the 6th Governance Local Politics Awards. Gokseong County Governor Lee Sang-cheol was honored with the Excellence Award in the cultural value creation field at the 6th Governance Local Politics Awards in 2024.
The ‘Governance Local Politics Awards’ is held to discover and spread excellent local politics cases. It is hosted by the Governance Center and sponsored by the President’s Local Era Committee and the Korean Society of Local Government. Winners are evaluated on various items such as governance implementation and achievement, innovation ripple effect, creativity/novelty, and self-development, and the final decision is made through document screening, interview screening, and on-site evaluation.
Under the theme of ‘Establishing a Gokseong-type Educational Ecosystem,’ Governor Lee introduced the background of the establishment of the Future Education Foundation, a public-private-academic joint education platform, and the contents of the project through establishing a governance system.
‘Gokseong-type education’ focuses on fostering creative convergence thinking through playing and learning in nature through forest and ecology education and cultural arts education using forests, natural ecology, and community cultural resources.
We are establishing a governance system with schools, parents, offices of education, and the local community, diagnosing local education issues based on community empathy and participation, and responding to changes in the future educational environment. By operating village schools and job-linked professional education courses that train local residents as instructors, we are killing two birds with one stone by promoting social participation and community revitalization as well as creating jobs.
In particular, forest and ecology education has established itself as a representative specialized education in Gokseong by linking with local elementary schools and allowing participation as part of the regular elementary school curriculum. We are promoting creative convergence education such as AI, coding, and robot education to cultivate future talent, as well as Gokseong’s unique and diverse education projects.
In addition, we have established a lifelong education base center with Jeonnam Science University and are maintaining the continuity and professionalism of education by providing a variety of lifelong education courses not only to children but also to all residents, such as the LIFE 2.0 project and lifelong vocational education linked to companies.
County Governor Lee Sang-cheol said, “We will strengthen cooperation with universities and companies to create a sustainable Gokseong, not the extinction of the region,” and added, “Through this, we will continue to foster customized creativity and unique characteristics by preventing the outflow of local talent by nurturing regionally specialized professionals and creating jobs.” “I will do my best in education,” he said in his acceptance speech.
