The Madurai Special Court for the Prevention of Torture has convicted ten people, including Yuvraj, in the 2015 murder of Gokulraj, an engineering college student in Salem district. Details of the sentence will be announced on March 8, the court said.
Gokulraj, a list engineering student from Omalur, Salem district, fell in love with a student from Namakkal who studied with him. In this situation, on June 23, 2015, Gokulraj went to the Arthanariswarar temple in Tiruchengode with the girl and was found dead on the East Thottipalayam railway track in Namakkal district.
The case was first handled by the Tiruchengode police. Tiruchengode DSP Vishnupriya was directed to inquire into the matter and file a report. But, he committed suicide within a few days.
The case was subsequently transferred to the CPCI on September 19, 2015.
Yuvraj, the founder of the Deeran Chinnamalai County Council in Sankagiri, was later named as the main accused in the case. Yuvraj, who was wanted, surrendered to the Namakkal District CBCID Police on October 11, 2015. Along with him, 17 people were arrested in the case.
Of these seventeen, Chandrasekaran and Jyotimani were the two who died. The remaining 15 were prosecuted.
The case was then heard in the Namakkal Primary Sessions Court. The case was transferred to the Madurai District Special Court for Prevention of Torture in May 2019. Accordingly, the case has been pending in the Madurai District Special Court for Prevention of Torture for the last three years. 1318 page indictment filed. 106 witnesses were questioned.
The trial is set to begin on February 9, with the trial adjourned to March 5.
Accordingly, Judge Sampath Kumar today announced the verdict in the case. Yuvraj, Arun, Kumar, Shankar, Arul Vasantham, Selvakumar, Thangathurai (Yuvraj’s brother), Satish Kumar, Raghu alias Sridhar and Ranjith were convicted in the case.
The judge also said that Selvaraj, Chandrasekhar, Prabhu, Sridhar and Suresh, who were convicted and imprisoned, would be released as their charges have not been proved.
The court said the sentencing details for those convicted would be announced on March 8.
Speaking to reporters after the verdict of the case, the public prosecutor P.B. Mohan said, “Yuvraj is of the opinion that people of his own caste should not marry people of other castes. Yuvraj saw Gokulraj and the woman sitting in the temple and inquired about their caste. , Sent with a couple named Jyotimani.
After this, Gokulraj was blindfolded and taken to Sankagiri in a car. Gokulraj was intimidated and recorded that he was going to commit suicide there. Then he wrote it down in writing. Then in another car, they changed the number plate, loaded Gokul Raja in it and brought him near the Pallipalayam railway track. There Yuvraj, Arun, Shankar and Kumar beheaded Gokulraj. The body was then dumped on a railway track. Swati’s cellphone was thrown into the river. Gokulraj’s phone was kept in his pocket.
He did not commit suicide when Gokulraj’s body was examined. It was revealed that he was killed. “
