Tamil Nadu’s Bhavani Devi won gold in fencing and Praveen Chitravel in triple jump at the National Games.
In the 36th National Games held in Gujarat, as far as the Tamil Nadu contestants are concerned, Bhavani Devi won gold in the women’s individual sabre category in fencing. In the men’s triple jump, Praveen Chitravel won gold with a competition record of 16.68m. Gresna Molly finished 3rd in women’s high jump. So far, Tamil Nadu is at the 7th position with 7 medals including 2 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze.
In the women’s weightlifting category, Saikom Meerabai won the gold medal in the 49 kg weight category. A Manipur player, she lifted a total weight of 191 kg, 84 kg in snatch category and 107 kg in clean & jock category.
Earlier, Meerabai missed the 3rd attempt in both categories as she was injured during the first two attempts and was undergoing treatment. Mirabai, who won gold in the Commonwealth Games last August, was expected to be the champion in this one as well. This is the 2nd National Games in which he is participating.
20 km Munita Prajapati of Uttar Pradesh, Mansi Negi of Uttarakhand and Reshma Patel of Uttar Pradesh took the top 3 positions in the women’s race, while in the men’s category, Chavessus player Devend Singh, Suraj Banwa of Uttarakhand and Akshdeep Singh of Chavessus won gold, silver and bronze respectively. The time recorded by Munita Prajapati (1 hour 38.20 minutes) is a competitive record.
In men’s 10m rifle category, Rudranksh Patil of Maharashtra, Arjun Babuta of Punjab and Aishwari Pratap Singh Thom of Madhya Pradesh bagged gold, silver and bronze respectively. Haryana’s Anish, Uttarakhand’s Ankur Goyal and Chavez’s Gurmeet won medals in men’s 25m rapid fire pistol.
In wrestling, Aman won gold in the men’s 57 kg category and Deepak of Haryana won the gold in the 97 kg category. In the netball competition, Haryana became the champion after defeating Telangana 75-73 in the Aadhaar division.
Medal list: As of Friday, Haryana is on top with 14 medals including 8 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze. Uttar Pradesh is at 2nd position (4/2/1-7) and West Bengal is at 3rd position (4/1/5 – 10).
