It’s now official, Real Madrid number 5, Jude Bellingham, succeeds his Barcelona rival Gavi and wins the Golden Boy 2023, the prize rewarding the best young player under the age of 21 playing in Europe. Almost unanimously (97% of the votes) and without any real surprise, it was the England international who was elected by European sports journalists.

Author of a great final season with Borussia Dortmund, but above all a thunderous start with Real Madrid with no less than 13 goals and 3 assists in 14 matches played, the native of Stourbridge had already won the Kopa trophy, the Last October 30, during the France Football Ballon d’Or ceremony.

The top 5 is completed by Alejandro Balde, Antonio Silva, Jamal Musiala and Xavi Simons. No Frenchman therefore joins the honorary ranking of the 5 best young people, notably Eduardo Camavinga, author of a great season for Casa Blanca, or even Warren Zaire-Emery who largely dominated the ranking of supporters’ votes. Jude Bellingham is therefore the third Englishman to win the trophy awarded by Tuttosport, after Wayne Rooney in 2004 and Raheem Sterling in 2014. He is also the first Real Madrid player to win the award.

In the other categories, Aitana Bonmati, women’s Ballon d’Or this year, was voted best European player. Erling Haaland, second for the Ballon d’Or, will have won another individual trophy with the best European player. Finally Lamine Yamal won the “Youngest” trophy.
