The Golden Globes are coming back, with an expanded jury and lots of stars. Will the restart for the film awards, which have come under criticism, succeed?

“Blond” actress Ana de Armas and star director Quentin Tarantino are expected to help present the Golden Globe trophies next week. The distributors of the film and TV awards announced the first so-called presenters for the 80th Globe Gala on Tuesday. Even filmmakers like
Jamie Lee Curtis, Natasha Lyonne, Colman Domingo and Tracy Morgan are said to be there. The Association of Foreign Press (HFPA) intends to announce more helpers in the next few days.

Black comedy The Banshees of Inisherin is a favorite in the Golden Globes race with eight nominations. Also, sci-fi comedy Everything Everywhere All at Once, Hollywood satire Babylon, and Steven Spielberg’s autobiographical drama The Fabelmans have multiple chances to win. The German war film “Nothing New in the West” has a chance in the category “Best Foreign Language Film”.

Awards in 27 film and television categories will be presented in Beverly Hills on January 10th. The broadcaster NBC wants to broadcast the 80th trophy award live again. Last January, NBC canceled the traditional TV broadcast of the gala. Nominees stayed away from the usually star-studded event, with the winners’ names only being announced via the HFPA association’s social media accounts.

The small organization of Hollywood-based foreign journalists had come under massive pressure due to a lack of transparency and diversity. As part of a restructuring, the pool of Globe jurors has now grown and become more diverse. (dpa)
