After months of delay, the transitional authorities announced the establishment of a rogatory commission to hear Cellou Dalein Diallo from Dakar, in the Air-Guinea affair. Which delights the political leader’s lawyer.

We tended to forget the Air-Guinea file, the source of the legal troubles of the president of the Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea (UFDG), Cellou Dalein Diallo. The Minister of Justice has just resurrected it. Alphonse Charles Wright announces, during a meeting with the magistrates, the establishment of a rogatory commission to hear Cellou Dalein Diallo, on his role in the transfer, at the dawn of the years 2000, of one of the aircraft of the national company Air-Guinée. Since this affair broke out, the president of the UFDG has continued to proclaim his innocence, suspecting the junta of wanting to use this file to exclude him from the presidential race. For his lawyer, Mr. Amadou Diallo, this development could be an opportunity to give his version of the facts: “For us, a priori, this is good news, since with this international letter rogatory, Mr. Cellou Dalein will have the opportunity to tell his part of the truth in this matter… We think that this is good news, that Mr. Cellou Dalein will have the opportunity to tell his part of the truth. This will allow the investigating chamber here to take the necessary decision, namely the dismissal of the case, because in this case, Cellou Dalein has committed absolutely no offense.”

The lawyer certainly welcomes the establishment of this letter rogatory. But he remains cautious nonetheless. He recalls that the Air-Guinea file is only a farce intended to put obstacles in the way of his client: “The real people who are concerned are calm. It is Cellou Dalein who is bothered, otherwise, he could only have been called as a witness in this case. The real person responsible for the sale of Air-Guinea is the Minister of Economy and Finance. It was he who carried out the operation in accordance with the 2001 law on privatization. Everyone knows it’s a legal cabal. If Cellou Dalein was not a politician, if he was not in pole position for the elections, there would have been no prosecution against him.”

To see if the CNRD will take the risk of offering, on a platform, Cellou Dalein Diallo the opportunity to speak before an independent entity in a case which, for many people, will inevitably result in a dismissal of the case.
