jpnn.comJAKARTA – WhatsApp introduces support for passkey verification on iOS, eliminating the need for users to deal with one-time SMS passcodes.

The launch on iOS comes six months after WhatsApp introduced passlock support on Android.

The new feature will be available to all iOS users in the coming weeks.

Once enabled, iOS users can log back into WhatsApp using passkey verification via facial recognition, biometrics, or a PIN stored in Apple’s passlock manager.

Passkey login makes it harder for criminals to access your account remotely, as they also require physical access to the phone.

Passkey also eliminates the need to rely on username and password combinations, which can be vulnerable to phishing.

WhatsApp users can enable passlock verification by going to their app settings, navigating to the “Account” option, and clicking the new “Passlock” button to set the verification method.

“Passkey verification will make logging back into WhatsApp easier and safer. “We are very excited to launch this on WhatsApp and provide an additional layer of security to users,” said WhatApp’s head of product, Alice Newton-Rex, in a statement.
