Good news for the public sector: the work week will be shortened with a special budget to help

by time news

The wage agreement in the public sector, which is part of the framework agreement, will be signed this week. Other details of the agreement were formulated over the weekend in meetings at the labor conference in Eilat between the Secretary General of the Histadrut Arnon Bar David and the head of the salary in the treasury Efi Malkin, who replaced his predecessor in the position of Kobi Bar Natan.

The new agreement will compensate for the increase in inflation in recent years, and will include a retroactive addition from 2020 (the date of signing of the last agreement). These are wage increases of about 1.5% per year, which are already included in the state budget for 2023/24. One of the good news in the new agreement is the implementation of a shortened work week, which currently stands at 42 hours and is considered one of the longest in OECD countries.

An equally important achievement is the activation of specific “assistance boxes” for unique sectors as they were during the Corona period, including the assistance sector which includes approximately 60,000 female and male employees, who will receive special compensation for the erosion of their wages in addition to the compensation agreed upon in the public sector. The special agreements will be subject to expansion orders that will also be valid for workers who are not unionized in the Histadrut.

Ben David clarified: “As part of a framework agreement in the public sector, after years of rising inflation and the cost of living, we expect high wage increases. The employees will receive compensation as part of an excellent framework agreement, and we will bring the news in the coming days.”
