And Opzelura, developed by Wilmington, is a medicated cream that can be applied directly to patches of discoloration on a person’s skin, aged 12 and over – the first such drug to receive such approval.
Results appear after 6 months
Many patients in clinical trials regained pigmentation after about six months of twice-daily use – and the cream showed stronger results after a full year of treatment, according to the Daily Mail.
The drug may take up to 24 weeks to show effectiveness in many patients. For some, it may take up to a year to reach its full potential.
The third stage of the disease
The drug showed promising results in a recently completed phase 3 clinical trial, which included 600 participants. Those who used the cream also showed a significant improvement in their skin tone, with half reaching a successful repigmentation threshold after a year.
About 15 percent of the trial participants reached this point in just 24 weeks.
