Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is at a standstill after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government. More than half of the directors including President Nazmul Hasan Papon are still in hiding. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the interim government is working intensively to activate the board.
Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan met the media at the secretariat on Sunday (August 18). He did not say anything clearly on the BCB interim committee or what could happen. But he said that the good news will come very soon.
‘This matter is ongoing. I don’t want to comment before reaching a solution. I hope you will get good news at the earliest,” said the youth and sports advisor.
As BCB is an autonomous body, the government cannot interfere directly. Apart from this, the obligations of the International Cricket Council (ICC) must be followed. Ban can come only if it is a little bit here and there.
According to the constitution, a quorum of nine is required to pass any decision. Meanwhile, RisingBD has confirmed that the quorum including directors Mahbub Anam, Iftekhar Rahman, Akram Khan, Kazi Enam, Jalal Yunus, Fahim Sinha, Khaled Mahmud Sujan, Sazzadul Alam Bobby is ready.
Now they will resort to the Ministry of Sports. From there, two vice-presidents will be elected from among the directors who continue the activities of the board. Anyone can be elected president from among them.
Earlier Papon said he agreed to resign. The sports advisor said that despite seeing the resignation of Papon in the media, he did not receive any official statement.
‘I have seen the resignation of the BCB director and president in the media. But I have not received any official confirmation or statement. We are discussing this matter with various stakeholders, cricket organizers and former cricketers to reach a better solution.’- Asif Mahmood added.
