Good valuation of agricultural insurance

by time news

The value of the premiums contracted in combined agricultural insurance amounted to almost 800 million euros in 2021, practically the same as in the previous year. Insured production reached a historical recordamounting to 15,590 million euros, which represented a rise of 2.4% compared to 2020.

The claims caused by an increasingly changing weather, derived among other factors from an advance in climate change, make agricultural insurance increasingly necessary and also grow the confidence of professionals in the field, or at least this is reflected in the results of the 2021 Perceived Quality Index survey, carried out by a market research consultancy for Agroseguro.

The average assessment that the insured have given to agricultural insurance is 7.1, increasing slightly compared to 2019 and 2020. The best valued lines of insurance are the removal and destruction of animals (7.9), livestock insurance (7.4) and citrus insurance (7.4). It is not yet considered an outstanding service, but it is certainly a very remarkable result.

And in this context, progress must be made towards an even more intense growth in contracting and coverage, for which it is key to know the weak points well potentially improvable, both by Agroseguro and by the State Entity for Agrarian Insurance (ENESA).

Discomfort of agrarian organizations

But in the meantime, some agricultural organizations express their discomfort at some data that they consider beneficial for the pool of insurers and therefore believe that they should revert to the improvement of the different lines. A conflict that can only be resolved with fluid and clear communication on both sides and a good understanding of the processessomething about which there may be good will, but that does not facilitate a system that, although efficient and well valued, is complex.
