After battling for several days on the fine line of life and death, due to secondary complications of dengue, sports commentator Iran Sánchez Cajide died in Las Tunas at the age of 68 and with more than three decades of professional experience.

For many years, the charisma of Iran described the sporting activities in this eastern Cuban province through the dial of its eternal home. Radio Victoria. Trainer of new generations, collector of anecdotes, colleague and the friendly voice that tested the nerves when the home runs flirted with the rod. Thoughtful by nature, Sánchez Cajide’s words find refuge in that hobby that he put his own blood to help him.

From the teenager passionate about baseball, complicit in the “madness” as even his mother thought, just to make the performance of swings, fielding and running. From a branch or shadow in any of the fields, to the radio booth, the son of the land of Las Tunas maintained the virtue of conversing with everyone, even if time was against him.

The beginning came from behind a sound console, but the threads of destiny had reserved a space for him behind the microphone, although he confessed to being a man of few words in his beginnings.

A last goodbye for someone who will always accompany the radio magazine “Doble play”, the Leñadores (local baseball team) and the athletes of Las Tunas. We will not hear it again, but, from the memory, his words will take us again to dance with “Doña Olga”, or we will imagine him, in the middle of the cabin, drinking a “Tiguerón”.

In the collective memory of a public faithful to his style he will find an eternal home. Goodbye, buddy.
