Goodyear denied, on Wednesday, the allegations in a French newspaper article The worldaccording to which defective truck tires manufactured in Luxembourg were responsible for several accidents between 2012 and 2014.

“Nothing is more important to Goodyear than the safety and quality of its products and the people who use them,” a company source told Luxembourg word.

Citing internal emails and secret spreadsheets, delivered to the newspaper by two sources, the text titled The Goodyear affair states that the tire manufacturer compensated dozens of victims and demanded, in exchange, their silence.

Criticisms of justice

O The world also points the finger at French justice, for the delay in responding to this case, and at the Luxembourg authorities. The report, the first of four that make up the investigation, documents “a global scandal with serious consequences” that affect several European countries.

“Goodyear is accused of not having warned the public about possible manufacturing defects affecting tens of thousands of tires manufactured in Luxembourg and of these being the cause of numerous accidents”, writes the newspaper.

To Luxemburger Wort, Goodyear states that, ten years ago, “it proactively initiated a replacement program for a specific category of truck tires sold at the time, in response to the feedback from the market”.

The measure was implemented “in a rigorous and transparent manner in coordination with the competent authorities” to replace as many tires as possible.
