Google Prepares Fitbit Edge Launch With Built-In GPS

Google is preparing to launch the Fitbit Edge this month as a screen-equipped fitness band bridging the gap between the screenless Fitbit Air and the Pixel Watch 5, featuring built-in GPS, a seven-day battery life, and limited app support starting at an estimated price between $149 and $199.

Google Fills Wearable Gap With Fitbit Edge

A device called the Fitbit Edge is set to succeed the Fitbit Charge series according to reports published in October 2026. Google first accidentally displayed the tracker in promotional imagery during the Pixel 11 series launch in August.

Recent product renders and leaked assets shared by Android Headlines reveal an oval display positioned alongside an elongated metal strip on either side of the tracker. Retail listings indicate these strips are used for ECG readings.

The hardware adopts a bulbous screen design that extends closer to the perimeter than previous iterations. It displays a face adapted for the oval screen with time, date, and complications for heart rate, step count, and workout activation.

On the back, the tracker features a sensor stack reminiscent of the Fitbit Air, pin mechanisms at the top and bottom for band removal, and compatibility with the same magnetic charging style. Google plans to release the wearable in three colorways—black, green, and orange—designed to match the Obsidian, Olive, and Canyon finishes of the Pixel 11 Pro series. The green and orange variants feature a two-toned aesthetic paired with a muted frame or a brighter gold frame.

Fitness Features Outweigh Smart App Support

Regulatory filings identified as model G8BL6 in an FCC filing and confirmed by an IMDA listing point to a wrist-worn device equipped with Bluetooth LE, GNSS, a charging base, and a screen. These filings show the device omits Wi-Fi and cellular radios.

Fitbit Edge leak reveals Google’s mystery fitness tracker

The Fitbit Edge provides a middle ground for users who want a fitness band with a display rather than a comprehensive smartwatch, positioning it between the screenless Fitbit Air and the full-featured Pixel Watch 5.

  • Up to seven days of battery life per charge
  • Precise and reliable GPS alongside elevation tracking via an altimeter
  • Automatic activity recognition and heart rate monitoring
  • Notification support and limited app access including Google Maps, Media and music controls & Find My Phone.
  • Compatibility with both Android & iOS.

The cross-platform compatibility mirrors the Fitbit Air and gives users greater flexibility. This contrasts with the Pixel Watch 5, which operates on Wear OS and restricts pairing to Android devices.

Pricing Targets Holiday Shoppers

Estimated pricing ranges from $149 to $199. This puts the Edge above the $99 Fitbit Air and well below the Pixel Watch 5.

Google has not yet announced an official release date, but industry expectations point to an imminent debut this month to capture the holiday shopping season. Previous Fitbit Charge models retailed between $129 and $179.
