Google Tasks to Become Unified Hub for Reminders, Phasing Out Keep Functionality in 2025

Google is streamlining its productivity suite by consolidating reminder functionality within Google Tasks, effectively phasing out the feature in Google Keep by the second half of 2025. This move builds on previous integrations and aims to create a single, unified solution for managing to-dos across the entire Google Workspace ecosystem.

In 2023, Google began this consolidation by replacing Google Assistant Reminders with Tasks, signaling a clear intention to centralize reminder management. Last year, the full Tasks app was integrated directly into Google Calendar for Android users, further expanding its reach. Now, the final piece of the puzzle – reminders within Keep – is set to migrate.

The transition, initially announced in April 2024, will see existing Keep reminders automatically transferred to Tasks. According to a recently updated support document, users will simply tap the bell icon in the top-right corner of Keep to save their reminders directly to Tasks. These migrated reminders will be clearly labeled with a “From Keep” badge for easy identification.

Following the migration, users will have the flexibility to view, edit, and complete reminders across multiple Google platforms, including Keep, Calendar, Tasks, and Assistant. This expanded accessibility is a core component of Google’s strategy. “This new capability will make Google Tasks the single solution for managing your to-dos across Workspace,” a company release stated. “So whether you’re saving something from Keep, Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Docs or Assistant, Google Tasks will make sure it’s up to date and accessible across the Workspace products you use.”

Google Keep currently offers a dedicated Reminders feed within its navigation drawer, and the app provides an enhanced experience when reminders are paired with longer notes. This functionality suggests Google recognizes the value of detailed context alongside simple to-do items.

The shift to Tasks represents a significant step towards a more cohesive and streamlined user experience within Google Workspace, aiming to eliminate redundancy and provide a central location for all task and reminder management needs.
