Pramod Pal, Gorakhpur:
Following the case of a sub-inspector accepting potatoes as bribes in lieu of work in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh, a similar incident has emerged in Gorakhpur. In this case, a post in-charge demanded a bribe of 40,000 rupees to register a case.
The matter came to light when Shashikant Mishra, a resident of Hardiya, approached Nausadh outpost in-charge Arun Singh with a complaint about a threatening history-sheeter. Allegedly, Singh demanded the bribe from Mishra in exchange for registering the case.
Recorded conversation on mobile:
Mishra recorded a conversation with Singh where the latter explicitly demanded the bribe. This recording was presented to SSP Gaurav Grover, who promptly initiated an investigation. The investigation confirmed the allegations, leading to Singh’s immediate suspension and the initiation of a departmental inquiry.
Previous controversies:
This isn’t the first time Singh has been embroiled in controversy. Earlier this year, he was accused of assaulting a woman, resulting in a ruptured eardrum. An investigation into this incident is ongoing.
