The Goseong County Governor has visited the ‘Samsan Elementary School Small School Revival Public Rental Housing’ site. Goseong County (Governor Lee Sang-geun) announced that on the afternoon of the 13th at 4:00, they visited the completion site of the ‘Samsan Elementary School Small School Revival Public Rental Housing’ and conducted a preliminary inspection to ensure the stable settlement of the immigrants who are scheduled to move in.

‘Samsan Elementary School Small School Revival Public Rental Housing’ was selected for the 2022 Gyeongnam Small School Revival Competition, and construction began in November 2023, with new residents scheduled to move in in September of this year.

The public rental housing being supplied this time consists of a multi-child type (84㎡, 8 households) for Samsan Elementary School students and a general type (49㎡, 2 households) for low-income families. The rent is set at 30% to 40% of the surrounding market price, and if the occupancy qualification is maintained, the contract can be renewed up to 9 times for 2 years each, allowing residents to reside for up to 20 years.

The prospective residents are 42 people from 10 households who meet the income criteria among the applicants and are expected to move in from all over the country, including Jeju, Wanju-gun in Jeollabuk-do, and Ansan-si in Gyeonggi-do. This is expected to play a major role in increasing the local population.

Governor Lee Sang-geun said, “I am deeply moved that the construction of public rental housing to save Samsan Elementary School, which was of great help in saving small schools in rural areas and preventing the extinction of the region, has been successfully completed.” He added, “Gosung County will continue to actively support the smooth operation of small schools in the region and do its best to restore village communities through mutual growth between schools and the region.”

Meanwhile, in addition to Samsan Elementary School, Goseong-gun has been selected for the ‘Gyeongnam Small School Revival Project’ for three consecutive times, including Yeongo Elementary School in 2020 and Donghae Elementary School in 2024. When the project is completed, it is expected to have a population inflow of more than 24 households and 100 people.

In this way, Gosung County is making multi-faceted efforts to revitalize small schools and local communities, and it is expected that this Samsan Elementary School public rental housing project will greatly contribute to the influx of population into rural areas and the revitalization of village communities.
