“I’m not really talking about a mass cabinet change. This is neither the time nor the place. But I have definitely formed a very clear and quite negative opinion about the work of some ministers.
I think that it really shouldn’t be covered with arguments that there is little time left, let’s be patient and the like – I think we should make those decisions, and I hope that we will agree and make those decisions,” explained G. Nausėda after presenting I. Šimonytė’s candidacy for prime minister in the Seimas.
However, the president did not specify which ministers could be replaced.
“I couldn’t name names. Would it be very serious to talk here? We are talking about one other minister”, said the head of the country.
G. Nausėda also added that his relationship with I. Šimonyte herself is excellent and business-like.
“Recently, we have been solving a lot of issues, exchanging opinions and, I would say, the relationship is completely normal.
I don’t think that any far-reaching generalizations should be made from one fact or another,” said the president.
Asked to consider the suitability of individual ministers to continue their work, G. Nausėda spared some very nice words and criticism for some members of the Government.
“I don’t have a good opinion about the Minister of National Defense, but I have a very good opinion. Minister of Agriculture, I have spoken about him more than once – I don’t think it is worth repeating what I have said before,” explained G. Nausėda.
And here, the president had much more comments for the minister of health protection, Arūnas Dulkis, who has been under pressure for some time.
“I also have an opinion about the work of Mr. Dulkis. If you look at what I said even four years ago, when Mr. Dulkis was appointed, what I said throughout this period and especially recently, when we see that the health care system is really accumulating problems and absolutely everyone can see it, except maybe the minister, then without there is no doubt that there is a problem”, thought G. Nausėda.
“I would like to take the first step, and then take the second step, or in other words, say A, and then say B,” the head of the country answered when asked who could replace A. Dulkis.
As the law provides, the Government returns its powers after the elected president is sworn in – the prime minister delivers a written statement to the head of the country.
In turn, the president assigns the prime minister to perform his duties until new powers of the Seimas are obtained and a new Cabinet of Ministers is formed.
The head of the country must submit a nomination for the prime minister to the Seimas within 15 days at the latest.
After the Seimas approves the Prime Minister, the President appoints him and instructs him to form the Government, which is later also approved by the head of the country.
