As a result, President Gotabaya Rajapakse fled the country. But he did not resign. It was reported that he will resign on the 13th. While there, he went to the Maldives and appointed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as the interim president. Ranil declared a state of emergency when people’s protest broke out against him.

In this case, Gotabaya Rajapakse has resigned from the post of President. It is reported that the resignation letter has been sent to Speaker Mahinda Yappa through e-mail.

Meanwhile, Gotabaya has gone to Singapore due to protests in Maldives. The Singapore government said he was allowed to enter Singapore on a private trip from the Maldives and did not seek asylum.
