Berlin – The actress Angela Winkler will receive the Götz George Prize this year. The 79-year-old is characterized by an “unbridled joy in playing” and “a light-hearted approach to her own great skills,” the jury said on Saturday in Berlin and added: “This artist lets her soul speak. The award, worth 10,000 euros, goes to actors and actresses who have shaped the film, television and theater landscape with their artistic work.

Winkler was born in Templin in the Uckermark in 1944 and, according to the statement, now lives with her husband in Berlin and France. Her first engagement was at the Westphalian State Theater in Castrop-Rauxel. According to the Götz-George Foundation, she became a star through her title role in the film “The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum” from 1975. The actress is also known from the Oscar-winning book adaptation “The Tin Drum” and from the Netflix series “Dark.”

The artist has already received numerous awards. In 2019 she received the acting award for her performance in the theater.

The Götze George Prize was created in 2017 and is named after the actor Götz George (1938-2016). Matthias Habich, Gudrun Ritter, Karin Baal, Margit Carstensen and Peter Striebeck have been honored so far.
