Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan commented that the government, media and people must work together to prevent air pollution, noise pollution and water pollution and to deal with the adverse effects of climate change.
He said these things in an exchange meeting with the members of Bangladesh Climate Change Journalist Forum at the meeting room of the Ministry of Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday (October 8).
Rizwana Hasan said, ‘The government has taken various steps to protect the environment. However, only enforcement of laws is not enough to control pollution, people’s participation is very important. He urged journalists to play a more effective role in increasing public awareness in controlling environmental pollution.
Rizwana Hasan also said, ‘To protect Bangladesh from the effects of climate change, collective efforts are needed. Government is focused on controlling air pollution and noise pollution, but successful implementation is not possible without awareness. We want people to start living environment friendly life. Every step is important.’
Forum President Kawsar Rahman suggested strengthening the negotiation team and creating a permanent negotiator team at the climate conference. Apart from this, he also talked about the enforcement of strict laws to control pollution.
General Secretary of the forum Motahar Hossain suggested spending the project money of the ministry properly and called for measures to prevent water pollution, air pollution, deforestation and hill cutting.
The meeting was attended by the Ministry’s Secretary, Additional Secretary, Joint Secretary and senior officers and other members of the forum.
