Government Buses in Tamil Nadu to Fill Vacancies for Drivers and Conductors
The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations are known for their excellent transport services provided to the public. These corporations operate city and suburban buses, ensuring convenient travel options for the people. The drivers and conductors working in the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation are appointed by the Ministry of Transport. However, recent reports suggest an increasing number of vacancies for drivers and conductors in the transport sector, prompting the issuance of a new ordinance to address the issue.
In the first phase of the recruitment process, the authorities have released a notification to fill the vacant posts in different divisions, excluding Villupuram. This notification aims to fill 812 vacancies for drivers and conductors in divisions such as Kumbakonam, Salem, Coimbatore, Madurai, and Tirunelveli.
The breakdown of the vacant posts is as follows: 812 drivers and conductors for Kumbakonam division, 254 for Salem division, 60 for Coimbatore, 136 for Madurai, and 188 for Tirunelveli. The officials have emphasized that the selection process will prioritize candidates registered in the district employment offices, and there will be reservations to ensure fairness.
To be considered for the positions of driver and conductor, applicants must have successfully completed their 10th standard education. Proficiency in reading and writing in Tamil is essential. Additionally, possessing a valid license to drive heavy vehicles and a driver’s license is required. A minimum of 18 months of experience in driving heavy vehicles is also necessary. Public service badge possession and a first aid certificate issued by the government are also prerequisites. Furthermore, prospective candidates must meet specific physical requirements, such as being at least 160 cm tall and weigh no less than 50 kg. They must also pass a visual aptitude test.
The wages for drivers and conductors have been fixed in the range of Rs. 17,700 to Rs. 56,200, ensuring a competitive compensation package for the selected individuals.
