What did the telecom companies say?
Telecom operators said that they can implement it. But they may face a lot of trouble for this. Because it is not possible to provide this service on 2G and 3G networks. However, it is going to be easy for 4G and 5G users to do this. That is, the network will have to be upgraded for 270-300 million 2G users. Also, only smartphones that came in the market after 2021 will support CNAP features. At the same time, it may take a lot of time to start the CNAP facility on 4G and 5G as well.
Mobile companies got angry-
Senior officials of all three companies told ET, “TRAI has decided to implement CNAP quickly without knowing the ground reality. This service cannot be a universal solution. It will not work even on feature phones. Also, it will support only 4G and 5G networks right now. In such a situation, crores of 2G users in India may be disappointed. As service providers, we have to look at all users in the same way.”
What did TRAI say-
While giving the order in February, TRAI had asked to implement CNAP in 6 months. The Union Minister also gave this information in the Parliament and said that the trial of CNAP feature has been started. However, no official information has been given by the companies on this yet. Experts say that this feature should not be implemented without knowing the ground reality. Because doing so can cause problems to everyone. Right now there are some apps which are fulfilling this purpose of the users.
