Government closes 14 illegal healthcare practices

The Commission responsible for monitoring medical care delivery structures has sealed 14 clinics which do not comply with their specifications. This operation took place on Friday September 29.

The Ministry of Health, through the Commission responsible for monitoring medical care delivery structures, tracks down illegal healthcare practices that do not properly fulfill their specifications for patients. According to the coordinator of the Unit, Blaise Ayivi, 14 illegal healthcare practices were identified and closed during the first 9 months of 2023. He informs that 2 of the closed illegal practices are run by non-medical professionals. According to Blaise Ayivi, “the courts are seized and the promoters answer for their actions before the courts”. An update on this closure was made on Friday September 29, 2023, by the coordinator of the Control and Inspection Unit for medical care delivery structures. Other irregularities were also noted during the checks. These include, among other things, the abandonment of medical consultations by doctors to nurses and caregivers; the abandonment of health centers to nursing assistants, particularly on weekends; the resumption of unsanitary conditions in health facilities, especially public ones. According to the Professor’s explanations, a veterinary agent would sell the 500 ml bottle of glucose serum at 6,800 CFA francs in his office. As for the 250 ml bottle, it costs 3,800 CFA francs. Needless to say, 500ml glucose serum sells for between 600 and 700 francs on the market. In addition to this scam, the commission coordinator also reported cases of trafficking in fake medicines. As a reminder, in 2021 several healthcare practices were closed for non-compliance with healthcare standards. These include the “Childbirth Clinic” in Godomey, the “St Léo Nursing Cabinet” in Godomey, the “La main de Dieu” cabinet in Cococodji, “Yelen Saints de Dieu” in Cococodji, “Dieu alone” in Akassato, and the “Humanitaire d’partums Ste Anne Ste Elisabeth” practice in Covè.
“We have had to close some of these nursing offices and childbirth clinics whose infrastructure, environment and services are rather worrying for the health safety of the patient. Immersion checks in health centers were carried out by departmental units. The deviances that we want to emphasize are the non-compliance with the specifications of nursing offices and childbirth clinics. These offices are often unsanitary.
