Rabat – The Government Council, meeting on Thursday under the chairmanship of Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, approved draft decree No. 2.23.151 relating to the protection of workers, the public and the environment against ionizing radiation.
Presented by the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, this draft decree is part of the implementation of the provisions of Law No. 142.12 relating to nuclear and radiological safety and security and the creation of the Moroccan Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security (AMSSNuR), indicated the Minister Delegate in charge of relations with Parliament, government spokesperson, Mustapha Baitas, during a press briefing following the Government Council.
This law has made it possible to strengthen the principles and conditions of security and safety in the nuclear and radiological fields at the national level, and to structure the regulatory control of activities and installations using sources of ionizing radiation, explained Mr. Baitas.
The same law places major importance on the effective application of the fundamental principles and conditions relating to the protection of workers, the public and the environment against ionizing radiation, particularly with regard to justification, optimal use and determination of doses, he said, adding that Law No. 142.12 provides for the adoption of regulatory texts to define the modalities for implementing said principles and conditions.
In this context, the Minister Delegate noted that the draft decree defines the general measures of radiological protection concerning professional exposure, exposure of the public and the environment, in application of the provisions of the aforementioned law.
