President Gustavo Petro assured through his X account that there is no shortage of jet fuel in Colombia, but rather a “irregular activity that is already under investigation«.

The statement was accompanied by a press release from Ecopetrol, in which the company reaffirmed the stability in the production and supply of fuels, including that needed for air transport.

Ecopetrol highlighted the normalization of operations at the Cartagena Refinery, following a contingency caused by an electrical failure ten days ago. The company reported that production has been reactivated in the refinery’s 35 operating units since August 18, which has allowed it to fulfill the delivery of fuels to all market segments.

Over the weekend, 64,100 barrels of gasoline, 108,500 barrels of diesel and 27,000 barrels of jet fuel were delivered to wholesale distributors, thus ensuring supply nationwide.

In order to ensure the availability of aviation fuel in the coming months, Ecopetrol has decided to import an additional 100,000 barrels, which will arrive in the country next weekend. This measure will allow for a 95% compliance rate in jet supply by the end of August, as established by current regulations.

The Cartagena Refinery, operating under normal conditions, produces daily an average of 99,000 barrels of diesel, 38,000 barrels of gasoline, 13,000 barrels of jet fuel and other essential products such as naphtha, LPG, propylene and sulfur, thus guaranteeing the necessary supply for the country.
