The Ministry of Economy and Finance sent 50 million dollars to the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS). The entity reported that the transaction was carried out this Thursday, July 4, 2024.

The amount represents a part of the State’s historical debt with the IESS for services of healthThe total debt is 5.036 billion dollars. This amount is due because the State must pay the medical expenses of retirees.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the funds will help the IESS to ensure the services of health for their retirees.

In a statement, they announced that they are seeking to pay the debt that the State has with the IESS to ensure that retirees and members continue to receive health services.

The transferred money is part of an agreement signed this Thursday, July 4, between the MEF and the IESS to recognize the pending contributions related to the benefits of healthAccording to the Ministry, this debt was audited in the second and third quarters of 2021.

The state also owes around $1.819 billion to social security because it has not paid 40% of retirement pensions.
