Government issues regulations prohibiting the use of official vehicles for personal purposes
The Government of Guatemala published this Tuesday in the Official Gazette the new presidential guidelines applicable to the assignment and use of official vehicles of the Executive Agency. With twelve paragraphs, the first guideline indicates that these are strict orders, and all public officials and employees that make up the Executive Branch must comply with them.

The second instruction states that official vehicles must be used exclusively for the fulfillment of activities related to the purposes of each entity. While the third warns that like any other vehicle, officers must comply with the requirements established in the Traffic Law and its Regulations.
The fourth guideline specifies that all official vehicles must be fully identified by the official logo of the Government of Guatemala of visible dimensions. While paragraph five explains that the entities of the Executive Agency must maintain an updated registry in which each vehicle is identified and described, as well as the responsible official.
On the other hand, the sixth guideline announces that the entities of the Executive Branch must incorporate the complete list of official vehicles in the public information section of the web portals. In addition, the seventh guideline says that the official vehicles of the Executive Agency must be protected within the facilities of each entity at the end of daily activities.

Guideline number eight reiterates the prohibition on public officials of the Executive Branch on the use of official vehicles, where public officials and employees are prohibited from:
a) Use them for purposes other than those authorized, for personal benefit or that of third parties.
b) Circular without visible plates on the front or back.
c) Circulate with plates that are bent, damaged, hidden or partially or totally covered with any type of material that prevents the visualization, identification or control of the vehicles.
d) Use them for electoral or partisan activities.
e) Use them for commercial activities.
f) Consume alcoholic or fermented beverages, narcotic drugs or any other prohibited substance inside.
g) Modify or vary its appearance or interior, including the installation of additional equipment to those authorized.
h) Claim public office to attempt to disregard traffic regulations or obtain preferential treatment.
Meanwhile, the ninth guideline indicates that the inappropriate use of official vehicles is subject to the deduction of the responsibilities that correspond to the responsible official.
The tenth guideline states that the entities of the Executive Agency must take the corresponding actions to determine the responsibility of the people involved in the inappropriate use.
In addition to the previous ones, the eleventh guideline warns that, as of Tuesday, April 23, a period of 30 days is established for the entities of the Executive Agency to adopt these new guidelines.
Finally, the twelfth guideline announces that the new instructions come into force immediately, and each entity of the Executive Agency must present a report in this regard.
