The governor of Espírito Santo, Renato Casagrande, signed this Tuesday (4th), at the Anchieta Palace, in Vitória, the Development Term with the Women’s Association for Education and Fight against Cancer (Afecc) for the transfer of financial resources to the construction of the nuclear medicine service at Hospital Santa Rita de Cássia, in Vitória.

The hospital’s new Nuclear Medicine Center is expected to be the state’s most modern PET-CT equipment and will serve patients from the Unified Health System (SUS).

It is a technology that unites the specialties of Radiology (with computed tomography) and Nuclear Medicine, enabling the identification and location of malignant tumors in the initial phase with much more precision.

The term provides for the transfer of BRL 5,067,840.03, BRL 4,896,526.99 from the State government and BRL 171,313.04 from Civil Society Organization. The term will expire on March 31, 2024.

“This new center will be essential for early diagnosis, which helps to save lives. All our investment in the health area is aimed at saving lives. And having this equipment available to SUS users is fundamental for us to be able to attend to those people who need it most. We will continue to strengthen the SUS and give more and more dignity to the state of Espírito Santo”, said Casagrande.

PET-CT is indicated, for the most part, for cancer patients, either in diagnosis or in treatment control.

“The new nuclear center at Hospital Santa Rita will be a breakthrough for SUS users in that more people will have access to the exam and this will make a difference in the treatment of each patient”, said the Secretary of State for Health, Miguel Duarte.
