The Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Romeo Rodríguez Herrera, supervised this morning the risk mitigation and intervention work on 17 slopes on the road that leads to the Port of La Libertad, on the bypass to Surf City, which seeks to prevent landslides on this tourist route.
“Different activities have been carried out, on the road to the port of La Libertad there are some slopes that have already begun to be intervened. We have been profiling to also be able to remove unstable soils. Some anchors will be made on the slopes,” explained the head of the Ministry of Public Works.
Rodríguez Herrera indicated that the investment made in these works amounts to $4.9 million and the intervention is expected to be completed in January of next year.
The work to be carried out consists of stabilizing the slopes with a pipe and shotcrete system, which will allow rainwater to be channeled to prevent landslides on the road.
“The important thing is to prevent landslides from continuing to occur in the next rains, which not only affect vehicular traffic, but also material goods and people,” Rodríguez explained.
With these works, the minister said, not only will road safety be guaranteed for more than 30,000 motorists who travel this road daily, but connectivity will also be maintained without the risk of accidents due to landslides.
