Government of the Valley provides support to indigenous communities for higher education scholarships

Santiago de Cali, August 1, With the purpose of guaranteeing greater access to higher education for indigenous communities, the Secretary of Ethnic Affairs of the Valley advances the accompaniment of the population interested in participating in the ICETEX ‘Álvaro Ulcué Chucué’ Forgivable Credit Fund, created between the Ministry of Interior and the Institute for the development of ethnic communities.

“The country’s indigenous community can sign up for these forgivable credits that allow indigenous communities to bridge social gaps in the face of the opportunity to continue their academic training. Guidance is provided from the Secretary of Ethnic Affairs to access these benefits”, indicated the Secretary of Ethnic Affairs of the Valley, Rigoberto Lasso.

He recalled that, “the Secretariat has professional advisers willing to accompany these processes, as well as the accompaniment in the completion, access, and preparation of the project.”

To access the forgivable credits, you must have Colombian nationality, a community project to be developed during the course of the study, be indigenous and registered with the Ministry of the Interior and the internal censuses of the communities.

“This allows them to support each other financially and strengthen the processes within the indigenous communities,” said María Raquel Trujillo, Technical Deputy Director of Indigenous Communities.

Registration goes until August 31 through the ICETEX website.
