Government presents security plan for 203rd anniversary of independence celebrations

The government of President Nayib Bukele has announced a robust security plan for the celebrations of the 203rd anniversary of El Salvador’s independence, scheduled for Sunday, September 15.

The National Civic Committee presented a detailed contingency and logistics plan that will cover various areas of the district of San Salvador, where the participation of numerous Salvadoran families is expected. The festivities will include parades organized by the Armed Forces, the National Civil Police (PNC) and students from public schools.

Luis Alonso Amaya, director general of Civil Protection, said that the special security measures will begin at five in the morning and will continue until the end of the activities. “Our main objective is to respond to any incident that may arise,” Amaya said.

The operation will have the support of various bodies and organizations, including the Tactical Operational Teams of Civil Protection, the Fire Department, the National Civil Police, the Armed Forces, the Medical Emergency System (SEM), the Ministry of Health, the Salvadoran Red Cross, Rescue Commands and the Salvadoran Green Cross.

Regarding traffic, Deputy Minister of Transportation Nelson Reyes detailed the street closures planned for the event. Alameda Roosevelt will be closed intermittently starting Saturday at 3:00 pm, and will be completely closed in both directions starting at midnight on Sunday the 15th. The closures will also affect Paseo General Escalón, from the Beethoven roundabout to Manuel Enrique Araujo, and the area around Parque de Pelotas.

The celebrations will begin early Sunday morning with the participation of 15 educational centers, which will present 2,200 students and more than 400 teachers and support staff. The Banda El Salvador will also be part of the parade, with 1,002 members from different regions of the country. The event will culminate with a concert in the Historic Center of San Salvador.
