According to the report, India’s population is expected to reach 1.522 million by 2036, with the percentage of women rising slightly to 48.8 per cent from 48.5 per cent in 2011. The proportion of persons under the age of 15 is projected to decline from 2011 to 2036, possibly due to a decline in fertility rates, the report said.

At the same time, the proportion of population aged 60 years and above may increase during this period. It is evident that the age specific fertility rate (ASFR) in the age groups of 20-24 and 25-29 has decreased from 135.4 and 166.0 to 113.6 and 139.6 respectively from 2016 to 2020. The ASFR for the age group of 35-39 years has increased from 32.7 to 35.6 for this period, which shows that after getting settled in life, women are thinking about increasing the family.

The rate of child birth is higher in those who are not educated
According to the report, the rate of child birth in 2020 was 33.9 in the illiterate population while it was 11.0 in the educated population. This rate is also very low for those women who are not educated but are socially aware.

Decrease in infant mortality rate
The report states that infant mortality rate has also come down. According to the report, the government has achieved the target of reducing MMR (97/lakh live births in 2018-20). According to the report, the infant mortality rate (IMR) has decreased in both boys and girls in the last few years. IMR has always been higher for girls than boys, but in the year 2020 both were equal at the level of 28 infants per 1000 live births. At the same time, the data of mortality rate of children under five years of age shows that it has come down from 43 in 2015 to 32 in 2020.

Women also showed their strength in starting a startup
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has recognized a total of 1,17,254 startups since its inception in January 2016 till December 2023. Of these, 55,816 startups are run by women, which is 47.6 percent of the total recognized startups. This shows that women in the country are also showing strength in starting startups.
