Residents of 25 states and the Federal District faced a power outage this Tuesday morning (August 15), which affected public transport, traffic and the operation of public bodies in several cities.

In a note, the National Electric System Operator (ONS) announced the interruption of 16,000 MW of load due to an “occurrence” at 8:31 am on the grid that affected the North-Southeast interconnection and knocked out the supply of electricity in states in the five regions. of the country – with the exception of Roraima, which is not connected to the national system.

According to information from the Ministry of Mines and Energy, by 10:22 am, supply had already been fully restored in the South, Southeast and Midwest regions of the country. The North and Northeast regions were, until 12:30 pm, with 41% and 85% of the recomposed load, respectively. Later, at 2:30 pm, the folder informed that the national energy system had been reestablished, “remaining specific adjustments to be carried out by the distributors in some cities”.

The causes of the problem are still being investigated, but the ONS claims that the interruption of power supply in the South and Southeast was a “controlled action” to prevent the problem from spreading.

The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, determined the creation of a working group to investigate the episode, formed by representatives of the ministry, the ONS and the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel).

Silveira was in Paraguay for the inauguration of the country’s new president, Santiago Peña, alongside President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The two countries share the administration of the Itaipu hydroelectric plant. Through platform X, formerly Twitter, the minister announced his “immediate return”.
